The Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Partnership In Action (TEPPIA) was instituted by the five Dioceses of the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province of the Catholic Church in Northern Ghana in consultation and collaboration with the Diocese of Muenster Germany, to facilitate the mobilisation, effective, efficient and accountable use of financial, human and other resources for the development of the Province, working in a coordinated manner and in partnership with relevant institutions of the Church and in solidarity with other organisations within and outside Ghana. TEPPIA aims at promoting integral human development through facilitating investments in health, education, water and sanitation, business development, environmental conservation, peace building and influencing public policies among others.

Positioning TEPPIA as value-adding

The justification for the establishment of TEPPIA is that it is adding value to what the dioceses are already doing to mobilize resources for the development of the province and not to duplicate or compete. Its purpose is to harness the advantages that a provincial framework offers and contribute to strengthening the diocesan efforts.

  • Capabilities:

TEPPIA brings to this mission a wealth of the church’s distinctive and impressive array of assets and resources (spiritual, human,
financial and material), and presence in virtually every community across northern Ghana that can be harnessed to develop programmes and projects that are sustainable and impactful.

  • Partnerships:

TEPPIA will prioritise working in partnerships and collectively with the DDCs. Strategic partnerships are necessary to mobilise resources and deliver services effectively and efficiently, and to be able to take development projects to scale and sustain their impacts.

  • Advocacy and strategic policy engagements:

TEPPIA will be a vehicle for the prophetic mission of the church in the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province in the pursuit of justice, protection of the poor and marginalized and stewardship of the natural environment.

  1. To develop the capacity of the dioceses, organizations, institutions and individuals in northern Ghana to fulfil their moral responsibilities in alleviating human suffering, removing its causes and promoting social justice and sustainable self-reliance
  2. To support self-help programmes which involve institutions, organisations, people and communities in the development of their families, environment and communities
  3. To work with other agencies towards sustainable self-reliance, conflict prevention and management
  4. To respond to victims of natural and man-made disasters, and providing assistance to the poor to alleviate their immediate needs
  5. To complement the pastoral activities of the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON)
  6. To create awareness among citizens about their civic rights and responsibilities through civic education
  7. To uphold human dignity and address human rights abuses through educational programmes and networking with agencies on Human Rights such as National Commission for Civic Education, Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, and the Justice and Peace Commission.

Like TEPCON, TEPPIA’s mission is to harness its commitment to the social teachings of the church which is centered around “a preferential option for the poor”, “care for the natural environment” and “love of neighbour as thyself” into practical interventions towards ending extreme poverty, creating jobs and restoring the environment in northern Ghana.

TEPPIA’ vision is to be TEPPCON’s leading development organization of excellence.

TEPPIA’s work is underpinned by values that are rooted in the social teachings of the church combined with dedication to professionalism, transparency and accountability.
